WHY WE WORK.

Every year Selma welcomes 23,000 visitors to the sites that have made history, but many do not stay for more than a quick walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge before moving on to their next destination. Selma’s population has shrunk by 17% since 2010. Small businesses struggle to adapt to the changing economic environment created by that declining customer base. 5,300 people drive into Selma to work every day but choose not to live here.

As a Blackbelt Benefit Group supporter, you know that one way to combat these issues is to provide open streets events filled with music, art, and delicious locally prepared foods. These events encourage our community members to support the small businesses that form the heartbeat of our downtown and give visitors the opportunity to see exactly what riches our region has to offer.

You help to make so much good happen – from events to community clean-up days to public art installations. Thank you. We hope you will continue your commitment to Selma and the surrounding Blackbelt by making a generous gift to Blackbelt Benefit Group today.
